Mission Statement
It is Michigan High School Rodeo Association’s intent to promote high school rodeo at the state level and encourage eligible students to participate at MHSRA rodeos. The association promotes the highest type of conduct and sportsmanship while at various rodeos. We strive to keep our Western heritage alive and active, while maintaining humane treatment of the animals we participate with. The MHSRA encourages students to further their education after high school with an aggressive Scholarship Program.

The MHSRA Senior Division is open to all students in grades 9-12. The Junior High Division is open to all students in grades 6-8. For specific event information, go to the Event page on this site.

The MHSRA rodeo season begins on August 1 of the calendar year and ends on July 31 of the following year. A new member can enroll anytime during the year. Applications for enrollment are available on this site.

The National High School Rodeo Association sponsors an annual National High School Finals Rodeo and National Junior High Finals Rodeo. Participants must qualify through their state rodeo association.

Associate MHSRA Memberships are available to the general public. This membership allows individuals to receive association communications and participate in association non-rodeo events, such as the Cowboy Prom. This membership is a non-voting membership. Membership Information

 

    Annual High School Division membership fees are as follows:

NHSRA (Dues, Insurance, Subscriptions)               $ 124.00
State dues                                                             $   25.00

Total due with membership application                $ 149.00

 

    Annual Junior High Division membership fees are as follows:

NHSRA (Dues, Insurance, Subscriptions)               $   80.00
State dues                                                             $   25.00

Total due with membership application                $ 105.00

The subscriptions are for the NHSRA Times and Western Horseman magazines.

 

 

Awards Money

*The total awards money fee is $100. The first $50 is by November 1st and the remaining $50 is due on or before the Mid-Winter Meeting (typically in January or February). If joining after November 1st the first $50 is due with membership. If joining after Mid-Winter meeting the full $100 is due.

Fundraisers
* MHSRA does multiple fundraisers throughout the year. There are three fundraisers that members have a choice of which 2 to participate in, Wreath Sales, NFR Trip for 2 and Gun Raffle. The Finals Program is mandatory for all members to participate in to help cover the costs for the two year end state finals.
Wreath Sales (August 1 to October 1): The association makes a profit of $10.00 dollars per wreath and each member is required to sell 10 wreaths worth a profit of $100.00 dollars to the association. A member may choose to not participate in the fundraiser by paying the $100.00.
NFR trip for 2 (January thru high school state finals in June): The tickets sell for $10.00 each and each member is required to sell 10 tickets. A member may choose to not participate in the fundraiser by paying the $100.00.
Gun Raffle (Dates to be Determined) The tickets sell for $10.00 each and each member is required to sell 10 tickets. A member may choose to not participate in the fundraiser by paying the $100.00.
Finals Program (Mandatory): (August 1 thru March 1): The finals program is produced for the purpose of being sold at the junior high division and high school division state finals to help offset the costs of putting on the finals. Each member is required to sell $100.00 worth of advertising for the finals program. A member may choose to not participate in the fundraiser by paying the $100.00.

As an encouragement to the members to participate in each of these fundraisers, the top seller in each will receive 15% of their total sales above the requirement in the form of credit that may be used for entry fees at rodeos or their membership for the next year. The second place seller receives 10%. If either of the top 2 is a graduating senior and they do not use their credit by the end of the season, it will be credited to their scholarship account.

 

General Information
-Membership application and release form must be notarized with notary signature, date, and seal.
- Both parents and member must sign all forms.
- On the permission slip, it is recommended that the parent signs for every event. If a member's interest changes and he/she    would like to participate in a different event, the original permission slip must have a signature for that event.
- A copy of the member's birth certificate and school grade card must be submitted with the application.
- Submit a separate check for membership fees. Do not include rodeo fees
